2022 Scary Story Contest

Trees are dropping their leaves and pumpkin spice is popping up on menus everywhere, which can mean only one thing: October is upon us!

Every October, Kenosha Public Library challenges children and teens to spend the month crafting a terrifying tale that will make our blood run cold. Submit your story by the end of the month for a chance to win prizes.

It’s time to sharpen your pencils and warm up your keyboards because this year’s Scary Story Contest theme is…*drum roll…AMUSEMENT PARK!

Who is eligible to enter?:

Children & teens in grades 3-12 may enter.

What are the rules? :

Your short story should be about 500 words long and typed, if possible. The theme for this year's story is AMUSEMENT PARK.

Your story MUST be your own, original work, and it MUST incorporate the theme. Stories that do not follow the theme will be disqualified. Language must be library appropriate.

What can I win?:

Winners will receive gift cards in various denominations. If chosen, you must be able to pick up your prize at one of our library branches.

How do I enter?:

Entries may be turned in at any library branch, including the Bookmobile, with a paper entry form (available at all libraries). Or you can submit your entry virtually using this form

All entries MUST be received by 9:00 PM on Monday, October 31st. Entries will be judged on originality, creativity, quality of writing, adherence to contest rules, and scariness! Judges' decisions are final.
