The youth of Kenosha sent us their scariest stories, and we had a great time reading them!  Our winner for grades 3-5 is Madeleine B., a fourth-grader at All Saints Catholic School. Judges were impressed by the buildup to the end of the story, which - as the kids say - goes hard.  One judge reported that he felt this was the scariest of the stories he read.

In the year 3000, there was a girl named Ella.  She was VERY intelligent and went to Harvard University.  One day, she was watching the news and was seeing what the temperature was going to be like the next day.  Then suddenly, an emergency breaking news alert popped up on her TV and the reporter said, “Breaking News!  Aliens are coming to earth on October 31st!  They will take someone to their base on Mars and turn them into an alien!”  She immediately panicked.

She started getting anxious because October 31st was in 3 days!  So she started brainstorming until she got 3 ideas in mind.  The first idea she had was to make a bulletproof base, so she built it, tested it, and then…CRASH!  It fell down.  She started to get angry.  So then she tried plan 2, building a catapult.  So she built it, tested it again and again, then…BOOM!  It broke!  Now she started to get FURIOUS.  Then she did plan 3, so she went inside to find a hiding spot. She found 3 possible hiding spots!  Under the dinner table, in the attic, or behind the rocking chair.  She eventually chose to hide behind the rocking chair and then went to sleep. She got woken up by the sound of sirens, crashes, and screams. She immediately realized it was October 31st!  She ran out of bed, and ran for the hiding spot.

She was all ready and comfortable until she heard a BANG!  The aliens started coming into her house and she started thinking about not seeing her family again and how she didn’t call her family the night before to say I love you to them.  She started tearing up and started crying.  They levitated towards her hiding spot and her heart started pounding really fast.  Then all of a sudden… “I FOUND YOU!” Ella starts crying out, “HELP! PLEASE! SOMEONE HELP ME!” The aliens took her to their base on Mars in a U.F.O. and once they got there, they took her inside the base and strapped her arms and legs to ropes hanging on the walls.  Then they put green goo in her mouth and her eyes got large and turned black, her skin started turning bright green, and then black goo kept rushing out of her mouth and then suddenly… POOF!  She officially turned into an alien and took over the universe.  The End.
