What’s YIG?
If you haven’t heard of YIG, you’re missing out on one of the county’s best-kept secrets. Since 2007, Kenosha County high-schoolers have served on County Board of Supervisors committees and attended County Board meetings. This year, sixteen juniors and seniors from schools across the county are lending their perspectives to discussions of local legislature, social services, public works, and more.
The benefits are mutual. While the teens gain hands-on experience in local government, County Board members have the unique opportunity to hear directly from motivated and engaged Kenoshans. YIG fosters intergenerational partnerships, empowers teens to participate in real-world civic activities, and opens up the world of public service to the next generation of Kenosha County leaders. The fact that Kenosha teens can participate meaningfully in government before they can legally vote is part of what makes this county special.
For all these reasons - and because we LOVE the goal of their service project! - we’re delighted to support YIG’s hygiene drive.
