The Kenosha Public Library (KPL) Board of Trustees is thrilled to announce Sarah Townsend as the library's next Director. Sarah will begin her tenure at KPL following a distinguished career in public libraries, most recently at Suffolk Public Library in Suffolk, Virginia, where she most recently served as Assistant Director.
With over fifteen years of experience in public library leadership, Sarah has been a champion for library services that reflect the unique needs of the people in the community. She has a passion for outreach, growing strong community partnerships, and building innovative programs and services that can be a spark for change in the community. In her previous work in Virginia, she spearheaded initiatives that transformed library services in her area including building award-winning outreach and program services, expanding access to resources and technology, and reimagining library spaces to be community learning hubs including the construction of a new library.
“We are delighted to welcome Sarah to Kenosha Public Library,” said Nancy Humphrey, Library Board President. “Her passion for libraries as centers of learning, connection, and opportunity aligns perfectly with KPL’s mission and values. We’re confident she will bring a fresh perspective and innovative leadership to our library and our community.”
Sarah is eager to embrace her new role in Kenosha.” Libraries have always been the heart of vibrant communities and Kenosha is no exception. I am honored to have been selected to lead KPL in this next phase of their growth," Sarah shared. "I'm eager to join KPL's dedicated staff in building on KPL's legacy of excellence in connecting people to information, resources, and each other. I look forward to being a part of this community and building community through our work together."
As KPL’s Director, Sarah will oversee all aspects of library operations and lead the organization into its next chapter of growth and service. Her focus will include strengthening community relationships, advancing library equity and access, and fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
