Eagle Scout Partners with Kenosha Public Library to Launch Little Free Food Pantries

KENOSHA, WISCONSIN, October 25, 2024 – Local Eagle Scout Ethan Mason has teamed up with the Kenosha Public Library to create Little Free Food Pantries at several library locations. These pantries are open 24/7 and aim to help fight food insecurity in the Kenosha community.

For his Eagle Scout Service Project, Ethan wanted to address the growing need for easy access to food, especially for people who may not be able to visit food banks or other services during regular hours. "I spent a lot of time at the library as a kid," Ethan shared. "I wanted to give back to a place that gave so much to me."

Kenosha Public Library’s mission is to be “an inclusive, welcoming community that strengthens neighborhoods, inspires shared learning, and nurtures curiosity.” Brandi Cummings, the library’s Interim Director, said, "The Little Free Food Pantries perfectly reflect our mission to make sure everyone has access to important resources that can improve their lives."

Ethan hopes the community will use the pantries in two ways: "I hope people who need help will take food from the pantries. I also hope people who want to give back will leave food for others. Both ways make a big difference."

The Little Free Food Pantries are located at four library branches: Southwest, Northside, Simmons, and Uptown Neighborhood Libraries. They are always open, and everyone is welcome to take food or leave non-perishable items.
