New Hours 2026

After evaluating the delivery of our services to best meet the needs of the community, we concluded these new hours would better allow us to shift our staff to when and where they are needed most.

This decision was driven heavily by data. We used data from our door counters over a two year period to see when our highest traffic times were. Based on that we reviewed our staffing to see where there might be opportunities to shift our staffing around our five locations. We also factored in accessibility challenges faced by some patrons. Lastly, we reviewed what types of library services are most often used and what staff resources are required for those services. 

First, check to see if another branch is open. Every effort has been made to balance out open hours throughout Kenosha and continue to offer library service 7 days a week. When we are closed you will still have access to online materials 24/7 and our WiFi is also available all day even in our parking lots. Additionally, we are exploring more self service options to bring the physical library to you after hours! 

Absolutely! Our staff are our most valuable resource and we hope that these new hours will allow us to spend even more time with you in our libraries. With a schedule that allows us to put more staff on our busiest times you can expect improved service with the capacity to work on those in-depth reference questions, spend time helping you with your tech needs, help you find your next favorite read and more. In January you can expect to see all of your favorite, regular staff members right where they were in December, ready to welcome you to the library.

Some regular program times may be adjusted to accommodate the new hours. You will also see some programs being offered before or after hours with library access just for program attendees. Ultimately, all library services will continue as they currently do with plans to expand our offerings in 2026. Possibly. The new hours are on a pilot program for the duration of 2026. Throughout the year our team will accept public input and evaluate usage data. Then, in late 2026, the KPL Library Board will vote whether to continue these hours or make modifications again for 2027 and beyond.
