  • Get a Library Card

    1. Get started online by filling out the online form, opens a new window or stop at any desk at your neighborhood library.
    2. Present identification with your picture and current address; or
    3. If your picture identification doesn't have your current address, you may present it along with one (1) of the following items:
      • checkbook
      • utility bill
      • rent receipt
      • current postmarked mail
      • magazine subscription
      • school report card

      The item presented must have your current address.

    NOTE: New library cards are free; however, there is a $1 charge for a replacement card.

    • All residents, adult, and juvenile, of the city and county of Kenosha; 
    • Non-residents who own property in the city or county of Kenosha;
    • Non-residents who do not own property in the city or county of Kenosha may pay a $50.00 annual fee for a library card; or
    • Teachers who teach in the city and county of Kenosha. 

    If you are a Wisconsin resident who doesn't live in Milwaukee County, you qualify for a KPL Library Card. If you are not a Wisconsin resident or live in Milwaukee County, you must apply for a non-resident card. The cost for a non-resident card is $50/year.

    Children under 14 are eligible for a juvenile card. A parent or guarantor needs to sign the child's library card application and show one piece of ID with a home address.

    Yes, City of Kenosha residents can fill out the Online Registration form and come into any KPL location to finish the registration process. Please bring a State issued ID, bank statement, or bill with your current mailing address.

  • Using My Library Card

    No. The Library will not share your information with any other organization unless presented with a legal warrant. You can find more information on the Privacy Information page

    You may still use library services. Either type your card number into the self-checkout station or if you are checking out at a service desk, the staff member will ask you to verify the information on the account. 

    Has your library card been misplaced? Stop by any neighborhood library to replace your card! Bring your photo ID to any service desk, and a team member will be happy to assist you. Replacement library cards cost $1. 

  • Updating Your Library Card

    You may update your email address online. Log in to your account and go to My Settings.

    Yes, you must update your library card every 2 years. Please ask for your library card's expiration date at any KPL location or view your card's expiration date in your account. If we have your email address, you'll receive an email letting you know when your expiration date is approaching.

    Yes, you must update your library card every 2 years, including those for children (under 16). Please ask for the expiration date of your child's library card at any KPL location or view their expiration date in their account. If you've added your email address to your child's account, you'll receive an email letting you know when the card's expiration date is approaching.

    We like to make sure we have your current contact information on file every two years. Updating your card is as simple as showing us your photo ID and confirming your current address. You may also update your card over the phone by calling 262-564-6101.

    If you move, change your phone number or email address, or have a name change, you can stop at any service desk or call any location to quickly update your library account information.

    Finally, you can use the update my library card form to inform us of the update. Please note that we may ask you to provide ID proof on your next visit to confirm your information.
